When an employee’s job performance is deteriorating personal issues at work or at home can be contributing factors. The Supervisory Referral Program enables the employee’s supervisor to refer the employee to the EAP for counseling which may help the employee develop coping skills that will improve his or her performance – and possibly save his job.
The employee is told that there is no guarantee participation in the EAP will prevent disciplinary action by the employer. The employee will be asked to sign a release authorization and the employer-contact will be told whether the employee has attended the counseling session and if another appointment has been scheduled.
